June and July events

June 23 is our freecycle/ewaste event at the Highland Heights Community Park. We still need volunteers. Please bring items for the event or just visit to see if you can use anything. Contact jeanette.evans@sbcglobal.net if you have questions. 

July 27 is the Highland Heights Community Day. We still need volunteers for the HHGTF table. If you cannot volunteer, please stop by and see our display.

Here are some notes from our June 5 meeting at the Highland Heights Community Center.

Judy Dearden started the meeting with the following reports

• Financial report
• Freecycle and ewaste event on June 23 
• Pumpkin patch planting took place at Millridge with all classes (YAY!)
• Community Day on July 27
• Mayfield schools green team
• Recycling in schools
• Planet Aid box at high school received over 9000 pounds since April, 2012 (YAY!)
• No July business meeting  
• Aug  7 business meeting - stay tuned for details

We watched a video of The Majestic Plastic Bag: A Mockumentary, then proceeded with book reports.

May meeting

Our May 1 meeting is to be about the CEVEC (Cuyahoga East Vocational Educational Consortium) Recycling Program. PLease let me know at jeanette.evans@sbcglobal.net if you have any questions.  

Here is a draft of meeting notes from our April meeting.  

The meeting took place on April 3. A record number of 63 people attended.  

Judy Dearden opened the meeting by discussing the following as concerns the HHGTF.  

- At the recent HHGTF board meeting we agreed that funds if our group ceased would go to Mayfield for a scholarship 

- Attendees should sign a volunteer email list that Judy passed around. 

- Fund raising is in progress

- Millridge composting update

- Mayfield Green Team Executive meeting update 

- New Mayfield library opening is Sat., April 20, 2-5, stop by our HHGTF table 

Christi Carlson, VP of Friends of Euclid Creek, spoke about how this is a joint meeting and about the land acquisition initiative for Richmond Heights and Highland Heights.  

Geoff Westerfield, Assistant Wildlife  Management Supervisor, Ohio Division of Wildlife, ODNR, spoke on the topic "What Can We Do with the Deer?" 

Cathy Murphy, President of Highland Heights City Council, spoke briefly on the topic of what topics city council is discussing concerning deer.

March Board of Directors meeting

Meeting notes for HHGTF Board of Director meeting for March 28 We met at Panera Bread and in attendance were Judy Dearden, Jeanette Evans, Frank Sever, Maryellen Dombek, Marybeth Skala, Rick Evans, and Al Hess. Here are the items we discussed. 

Quorum and meeting minutes

We have a quorum and can vote on issues.  

Jeanette read the minutes from the last meeting. 

Financial report

Judy presented the report and asked that we vote on what would happen if we were to cease operation. By unanimous vote we agreed to 

• place our money into a scholarship fund for Mayfield schools if we cease operating
• increase dues from $15 to $20 a year

Incorporation and non profit status

We are now incorporated and agreed to proceed with non profit status. We discussed proceeding with Bay Village and Rick is to talk to Ken Messinger-Rapport about this. We discussed the need to raise funds for these types of projects: 

• scholarships
• land acquisition
• speaker fees
• table fees 
• supplies such as gloves for composting projects
• costs for taking classes 
• field trip fees such as renting a bus
• conference fees 
• educational materials such as fliers and handouts
• printing

UH SAFE KIDS 

Judy updated us on this program to recycle car seats. 

Partnering

We discussed partnering with cities such as Mayvield Village and Richmond Heights

We discussed that by:

• 2016 we would double membership and increase collaboration
• 2018 we would have a paid staff member
